OUR STAFF
Phil is a Marylander brought up in the place affectionately known as the Charm City and home of the Baltimore Ravens. You might hear a Ravens reference in a sermon or two. He has a deep appreciation for sports, comedy, sci-fi movies and "winning" in spades. After playing football and receiving degree in Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland (GO TERPS!), God in his humor and wisdom called him to a life in spiritual fire protection and safety for almost 25 years. His warmth and love for people makes ministry the perfect calling for him since there are no strangers in his world. Phil is passionate about sharing and teaching people God's transforming Word and he is zealous about raising up men for greater works of service for Jesus. What brings the biggest smile to his face is spending time with his breathtaking and beautiful wife of almost 22 years. Together they have 3 amazing "Never A Dull Moment" children.
Ayhanna is a Midwesterner born and raised in Detroit, MI. She considers it a privilege to serve in the ministry for over 25 years. Her mantra is that she serves at the honor and pleasure of the King. She loves walking together with the women in our community - studying God's Word, praying, serving, loving God and living out faith as one. She considers herself blessed to adventure together with her partner in life for the last 19 years and counting, even though he causes her to blush as he expresses affection for her in the pulpit. They are raising two teenage gentlemen and a sweet spunky preteen daughter. Ayhanna holds a law degree from the University of Virginia and practiced tax law prior to working full-time in our sister churches throughout Virginia and Maryland - so she is able to help with the two areas they say none of us can avoid, death and taxes.
One Love Ministry
Drew Mines came to faith in Christ when he was in the teen ministry while living in Los Angeles at the age of 14. He graduated from Virginia Tech with an undergraduate degree in History and a Masters in Education. He is currently finishing up his Masters of Divinity with a concentration in New Testament at Regent University. He loves goofing off with his son Brooks and going to restaurants with his wife. He loves all things competitive: sports, board games and word puzzles. His Bible expertise is in the Gospels and Acts, and he loves studying the word of God learning more about Jesus.
Jenny Mines grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and became a disciple as a teenager. She attended James Madison University and graduated with a degree in Dietetics. She went onto intern and serve in the ministry full-time after college in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was there she met her husband, Drew, got married, and had their first son. Jenny loves being a mom, baking, and spending time with women especially over coffee. She also loves exploring new restaurants, hiking, being outdoors, and traveling.
Youth & Family Ministry
Brian was born and raised in Central and Southern Ohio. He attended High School in Columbus--Go Bucks--and spent most of his college career at the University of Cincinnati. Brian has a background in Engineering and has worked in both Civil and Mechanical Engineering fields. While enjoying the Engineering world, Brian often found himself behind the computer wishing he were able to spend more time encouraging and engaging with youth and their families. In 2006 he left his career in Engineering and went to work as a youth minister in Phoenix, Arizona. Brian, Lauren and their 2 daughters Maddie and Sophie are excited to settle in Rockville with an opportunity to serve in the same capacity at Capital Rivers. Brian has been working with the youth and family ministry in both volunteer and professional settings for nearly 25 years. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching and playing volleyball, golf and a number of other sports and activities. Most of all, Brian enjoys connecting with people and helping them to see how God can use their strengths and weakness to transform themselves and this world.
Lauren was born and raised in “The Greatest City in America,” though you would never know it from her lack of accent. As a little girl she’d fall asleep in the summers listening to Red Sox games on the radio and is a fan of all things New England, She studied Political Science and Public Relations at American University with the intention of running for President in 2020. Her love for practically engaging with the community drove her to trade her political aspirations for a lifetime of service through teaching or ministry. Lauren met Brian while they were both counselors at Camp and their love for each other and serving youth has been growing ever since. While Lauren is uniquely talented and passionate about connecting with people, specifically our youth. She has spent the last 25 years stirring the hearts of women and helping them to see they are only limited by their ability to understand God’s love and dreams for them. Lauren loves spending time with her family, watching her girls play sports, coaching gymnastics, playing hockey, and attending championship parades. Most of all, Lauren enjoys living life with families and engaging in relationships that help all parties glorify God with their lives.
